Deal Breakers

By: Colleen Davis

If you’ve read any of my marketing advice articles, you likely already know how important I think having a professional looking print business card is to your face to face marketing efforts. Really, it can either be a deal maker or a deal breaker for you as much as your manner of speech or your personal grooming can be. When making a first impression and establishing yourself as someone worthy of attention, you have to present a complete image. If one aspect is off, it can ruin your presentation. With that in mind, keep a few of the following mistakes in mind when printing new business cards.

Omitting Information - Gone are the days when business cards consisted solely of a name and a telephone number. Make sure you don’t leave out a potential point of contact that might help facilitate a sale. An out of town prospect may not make a long distance call to you every time they have a product question but if you have your company’s website address on your business card you make it easy for them to get the details they need in a convenient way. Cell phone numbers, pager numbers or e-mail addresses, if you’re using them for business, should all be available on your business card.

Having a Bland Card - If you’re stuck with a black and white card from a few decades ago, it’s time to invest in color business card printing. There are a wide variety of color printing options for cards these days, from color gradient backgrounds to photo images and with how inexpensive color printing is these days, there’s no excuse to have a boring card.

Thinking One Card Fits All - You’re undoubtedly doing business with a wide variety of people, so its short sighted to think that one card is going to work for everyone. The card you use for potential clients may not be the right card to hand to a potential investor. Custom business card printing is your answer. You can’t make a unique card for every person you might meet, but you can cover your major categories. For example, if you are looking to expand your business internationally or if you just have a large international community where you do business, consider printing custom cards in the appropriate language. The little bit of extra effort can pay off big dividends.

Your business card is your representative in all your business dealings. After your handshake and smile are forgotten, the card will be there to remind people of who you are and what you have to offer them. There’s no reason your business card should be anything less than perfect.
