Facts you should consider before introducing a new

There are many facts to consider before you get a new pet. The variations in behavior and traits among dog types can be as diverse as the dissimilarities in people. Finding the right match between the dog breed and the owner or family is the key to success in getting a dog into your house.

Dogs come in a lot of races that are naturally introduced to the dog world along with those created purposely by cross-breeding, for example Labradoodle which is a cross breed of a Labrador Retriever and a Poodle.

The obvious question to ask your family is, what dog size you can handle. Having a large garden can offer adequate room for a large dog to run and play.

Do you want a pet that is sturdy, yet cuddly and good with kids? Are you hoping of getting a guard dog for your home? Do you want to own a show dog to enter competitions?

Maybe you just want to own a faithful companion, small enough to be comfortable in your house and calm enough to sit with your family and have fun? These are several concerns to think about as you look for the right type of pet.

Are you living alone in your house? Single person who works long hours then choose a breed of dog that can manage with a lot of alone time at home – perhaps pet dog that like dog toys and entertains himself.

If you live with little kids a medium to large-size dog is better because this type of dog is generally gentle by nature as well as patient with kids. Your kids might think that their dog is like a toy – your kids do not understand that dogs are living; breathing being that can get hurt and become aggressive by their actions.

There are also breeds that are not patient with the bad and aggressive of your small kids, but would be great with grown-up kids. A perfect match for older people is a breed that needs to be calm.

Another two types of dogs are those that shed and those that do not shed. Dog shedding is a huge problem of people who have dogs. Dog hair clings to furniture, clothing and people who sit anywhere in the house. Although short haired dogs may appear easier to groom but they too can shed. Shedding can be grouped into barely sheds, seasonal only shedding and the last one is constant shedding.

Another significant factor to consider is the size of the dog. Smaller dogs weigh less than 10 pounds, medium dogs weigh 11-25 pounds, large dogs weigh 26-50 pounds and extra large dogs weight 51-80 pounds. There are also extremely large dogs like Mastiffs and St. Bernard that can reach up to 100-180 pounds. Now you see why size is also a big factor in choosing a dog that is suited for you and your family.

Can your furniture stand that much weight of dog? When you are picking a dog always keep in mind to base your decision on the size the dog will grow to as an adult and not on the look of the puppy.

Big dogs are also big eaters. If you bring home a large dog like a Mastiff, you may need a second career just to pay for the dog food.

Care requirement is another important consideration. Some dogs require more grooming and care than others. Dogs like poodles or show dogs may spend a little more time in grooming centers than you do. There are also dogs that need weekly (or even daily) grooming to keep their coats from tangles. Take time to research about the breed that you desire. Check the dog’s character, size, and grooming requirements before you make any decision. Researching those important information will surely save you a lot of time and avoid any problem in taking care of the dog. It's only fair to the dog you want that you be ready for its basic needs, plus provide the love and attention that only you can give.
